About the Company

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. FAO was born in 1945 – In Quebec City, Canada, the first session of the newly created United Nations established the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) as a specialized UN agency. Washington D.C. is designated as a temporary FAO headquarters.

Our goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. With 195 members – 194 countries and the European Union, FAO works in over 130 countries worldwide.

  1. Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security:
    • FAO supports the transition to sustainable agriculture by collecting, analyzing, and disseminating data to aid development. They provide expertise in agronomy, forestry, fisheries, livestock, and nutrition, among other fields.

  4. Digital Services and Innovation:
    • The FAO Digital Services Portfolio (DSP) is a cloud-based platform designed to disseminate information in the food and agriculture sectors, scale up agricultural services for smallholders, and foster digital inclusion. This initiative supports the modernization and digitalization of agriculture to improve resilience and productivity.
  5. Public-Private Collaboration:
    • FAO acts as a neutral forum for nations to build common understanding and engages the food industry and non-profits to support farmers. They facilitate public and private investments in strengthening the food sector, improving smallholder agriculture, and enhancing food systems.
  6. Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability:
    • FAO supports countries in responding to climate change by providing advice, data, and tools for better agricultural policies and practices. They promote sustainable approaches to natural resource management and help implement best practices in fisheries and aquaculture.
